Meningitis Now Gala 2016

The latest charity gala at Rugby Thornfield Indoor Bowls Club was in aid of Meningitis Now. Fourteen teams took to the carpet all trying to clinch top spot.

With the first round of games completed “I Haven't a Clue” and “The Inbetweeners” were in joint first, one point clear of “The Dav Chavs” and “The Newbies” in joint third. Fifth place was shared between “Just Trying”, “Rail Roaders” and “Sue's Mob”. Heading into the half-time break “The Inbetweeners” took a one point lead over “The Dav Chavs” and “The Newbies”, “I Haven't a Clue”, “Just Trying” and “Sue's Mob” in joint fourth completed the leading pack.

Three game down and “The Newbies” took top spot, two points ahead of second place “The Inbetweeners”. “I Haven't a Clue”, and “The Dav Chavs” shared third place and in joint fifth were “Rail Roaders” and “Sue's Mob”. With the last bowls delivered three teams were tied on 19 points, “Just Trying” and “The Newbies” were joined by “Fanny's Fabulous Flan Flingers” who put on a very late surge. There can be only one winner so it came down to total shots scored, with 23 shots Pat Quirke, Andrew Smith, Bruce Truman and Nigel Hewitson aka “Fanny's Fabulous Flan Flingers” took the title, “Just Trying” were second with 20 shots and third went to “The Newbies” with 16 shots. Fourth place went to “The Inbetweeners” and in joint fifth were “The Dav Chavs” and “The Young Chicks”.​
