Thornfields first gala of 2016 was in aid of the PSP Association, this charity is dedicated to helping people with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy and Cortico Basal Degeneration. Both those conditions are terminal degenerative brain diseases with no known treatment. With the club also playing in both the Wessex League and Under 25s Double Rink on the same day the field was limited to twelve teams.
With the first round of games completed “Knapp Jacks” and “X Rail” were in joint first, one point ahead of “Speckled Hen”, “Four Skips” and “Bob and the Three Graces” in joint third. “Four Skips” took control of top spot heading into the midway break. “Knapp Jacks” were second, “PSP” third and “Pic n Mix” fourth. In joint fifth were “Speckled Hen”, “X Rail”, “Oliver's Army” and “Bob and the Three Graces”. After the third set of games were finished “Pic n Mix”, “PSP” and “Knapp Jacks” were tied in first, a quirk of the fixtures meant “Pic n Mix” and “PSP” would meet in their final game. A couple of points back in fourth were “X Rail”, who in turn were a point ahead of “Oliver's Army”. “Knapp Jacks” (Chris Knapp, Alan Jackson, Michael Jackson and Colin Knapp) scored a perfect eight points to take the top spot with 25 points. “Mix n Match” were second on 23 points, 22 points secured “X Rail” third spot. “Four Skips” finished fourth on 20 points, one point ahead of fifth place “PSP”. The Club finished 2015 off with a gala to raise funds for their Under 25s Section. It was also a celebration as the Under 25s are through to a quarter final encounter against Wellingborough in the David Cornwell Trophy (Under 25s Double Rink), with most of the team playing in the gala.
“Wycliffe Girls & Boys” led the way after the first round of games, one point ahead of “X Rail” and “Under 250s” in joint second. “RIP Lemmy”, “Tone's Mob”, “Mandy's Fours” and “Shortest Tonight” in joint fourth completed the leading pack. Half-time saw “X Rail” and “Under 250s” locked in first place, “RIP Lemmy” were third, “Wycliffe Girls & Boys” fourth and in joint fifth were “Gwynn's Lads”, “It's Not My Fault”, “Tone's Mob” and “Mix & Match”. After three rounds “Under 250s” held a two point lead over “X Rail”. “Wycliffe Girls & Boys”. “Gwynn's Lads” and “X Rail” were joint third with “Mix & Match” completing the top five. With the last bowls delivered “Under 250s” consisting of J Lever, Becky Lever, M Woodward and Brian Lever, held on to top spot, just one point clear of “Wycliffe Girls & Boys” in second on 23 points. Joint third with 20 points were “Mix & Match” and “X Rail”, “It's Not My Fault” took fifth place with 18 points. |
