Rugby Thornfield's charity gala season rolled into December and the festive spirit took hold as twelve teams lined up to raise funds for Myton Hospice.
Two teams led the way after the first round of games, “Nappies” and “Wallies”. A point behind them in joint third were “Yellow Snowballs”, “X Rail” and “Niceicles”. Heading into the half-time entertainment “Yellow Snowballs”, “Wallies” and “Niceicles” were tied in top spot with “Rail Rascals” a point back in fourth. Fifth place was shared by “Speckled Hen” and “Nappies”. During the half-time break the players and spectators were treated to some singing and dancing by a group of local youngsters. They later went around with a bucket to collect donations for the charity, the team consisted of Evelyn Wheeler, Hannah Smyth, Jenny Chater, Neave Hamlin and Paige Davis. With the entertainment over the bowls restarted and again there was a tie for first, “Rail Rascals” and “Niceicles”. “Pic n Mix” were third with “Yellow Snowballs” and “X Rails” completing the top five in joint fifth. The end arrived and one team had taken itself to the top of the tree: Jan Mitchell, Sue Henderson, Lesley Hartopp and Bob Henderson aka “Niceicles” finished with 26 points. Second place on 21 points were “Yellow Snowballs”. “X Rail” and “Rail Rascals” were joint third on 20 points, while joint fifth on 18 points were “Wallies”, “Bill's Lot” and “Pic n Mix”. |
