The penultimate charity gala in the club's winter season was in aid of Arthritis Research, a full set of 16 teams took to the carpet to help raise funds.
A perfect game by “Diversity” saw them take all 8 points and top spot, one point clear of “The Young Chicks”, “X Rail” and “Red Rugby Rogues” in joint second. “MA'AM” and “Thornfield Thunderers” completed the top five with six points. Heading into the midway break “X Rail” and “The Young Chicks” were joint first, one point ahead of “Red Rugby Rogues” and “Thornfield Thunderers” in joint third. A point further back in fifth place were “Plonkers”. With plenty of cakes available for sale, the bowlers returned to the battle refreshed and well-fed. Heading into the final set of games there was a three way tie for top spot “Plonkers”, “Red Rugby Rogues” and “X Rail” all on 20 points. Fourth spot was held by “Thornfield Thunderers” with 19 points, while “The Young Chicks” were in fifth three points further behind. After the last games were finished two teams had 27 points, since there can only be one winner the title was decided on shots scored. With 42 shots “Plonkers” aka Bev Bale, Paul Bale, Dave Sands and Lloyd Bale took the crown ahead of “Red Rugby Rogues” who scored 38 shots. In third place on 26 points were “Thornfield Thunderers”, 21 points secured joint fourth for “The Young Chicks” and “X Rail”. A special mention goes to the bottom placed team of Darren French, Andy Gordon, Matt and Luke Walker, playing as “The Underdogs”. These were complete rookies who had had only a couple of roll ups but took part in the spirit of charity. Comments are closed.
