The second charity gala of Rugby Thornfield’s winter season saw a full set of sixteen teams raising money for Parkinsons, special mention goes to the two teams of people with Parkinsons who enjoy coming to the club for a weekly session showing bowls really is a sport for all.
After the opening round of games three teams were tied on seven points Howard's Bluebells, Mary's Blue Jays and Hot Shots. In joint fourth with six points were Odds & Sods, TLS and Uno Our Name. Heading into the midway break there were now four teams sharing first place Hot Shots, Howard's Bluebells, Odds & Sods and TLS all on thirteen points. Farmers Four and Mary's Blue Jays were joint fifth, four points behind the leaders. Odds & Sods moved a point clear of Howard's Bluebells and TLS with one set of games to play, their final game would be against TLS. Hot Shots were in fourth place with Fismits, X-Rail and The Incredibles in joint fifth. With all games completed Odds & Sods (Arnold Bax, Tony Hoffman, Yvonne Bromfield and Maureen Edwards) held firm to win the gala with 27 points, Howard's Bluebells secured second place with 26 points. Joint third on 21 points were X-Rail, Hot Shots and The Incredibles. Thornfield’s galas are open to all, members and non-members, they are preceded by a two hour bowl for free session where you can learn the basics if you’ve never played before. The next gala is on Sunday 9th December in aid of the Rugby Food Bank. The club is also holding a series of Bowls Drives where anyone can come along and take part in a fun two hour session of bowling, the next one of those is on Friday 16th November at 6:30pm. First up is the standard season opener, the Guide Dog Gala.
Only one team registered a perfect score in the first set of games The Mix, three teams shared joint second with 7 points Fab Four, Mandy's Mob and Odds & Sods. A further point behind in fifth place were Tina's Crew. Heading into the halfway break Odds & Sods moved into the lead, a point clear of Fab Four, a further point behind were The Mix with Tina's Crew and Mandy's Mob in fourth and fifth respectively. Odds & Sods extended their lead after the third round, Fab Four still on their coattails. Lucky 7 moved up into the top five, The Mix dropped down to fourth with Tina's Crew now in fifth spot. A show result in the final set of games saw Odds & Sods fail to pick up any points which enabled Fab Four (I Amos, S Blackshaw, T Butterworth and B Weston) to win the gala with 24 points. Lucky 7 finished second, two points behind and a point ahead of The Mix in third. Odds & Sods stayed on 20 points in fourth with Newbies plus two finishing fifth, two points behind. The penultimate charity gala of Rugby Thornfield Indoors Bowls Clubs season was in aid of the NET Patient Foundation, which supports people who have neuroendocrine cancer. Twelve teams took to the green carpet with music playing over the club speaker system to battle it out in four games of five ends.
With round one complete “Fab Four” and “Not So Hot Shots” led the way with seven points, “Dolly Mixtures”, “Oddments” and “Fannys Fantom Flan Flingers” a point behind while “Team Six” complete the list of teams to win their opening game. Heading into the midway break “Dolly Mixtures” and “Fab Four” shared top spot, two clear of third place “Team Six” who in turn were two points clear of “#HASHTAG” and “Not So Hot Shots” in joint fourth. “Fab Four” took sole control of the table after three games, both “Team Six” and “Dolly Mixtures” were two points behind in joint second. In fourth spot was “Oddments” with “Not So Hot Shots” completing the top five. With all games complete it was as you were for the leading three teams, all gaining six points in their last games, which meant “Fab Four” aka I Amos, S Blackshaw, S Butterworth and B Weston finished first. Joint second went to “Dolly Mixtures” and “Team Six”, two points behind first place and five points clear of “Mothers Day Miracle” in fourth. “#HASHTAG” and “Not So Hot Shots” shared fifth spot. The clubs first charity gala of 2018 saw a full set of 16 teams take to green to raise funds for the British Heart Foundations Take Heart initiative which encourages exercise to help keep the heart healthy.
Two teams had an early one point lead after the first round, “Peaky Blinders” and “Bob's Babes” leading the way. Four teams were tied in joint third “Fannys Fantom Flan Flingers”, “Mix n Match”, “Thai Team” and “Dangerous & Co”. Moving into the half-time break the gala was wide open with five points separating ten teams, two points clear in joint first were “Dangerous & Co” and “Thai Team”. Third place were “Fannys Fantom Flan Flingers”, one point ahead of “Not Again” and “Peaky Blinders” in joint fourth. “Thai Team” held onto top spot after the third set of games, “Fannys Fantom Flan Flingers” and “Peaky Blinders” were joint second with joint fourth being held by “The Three Ts” and “Mix n Match”. A surprise defeat for “Thai Team” in their final game allowed “Peaky Blinders” (Jacob Mills, Sam, Glenn & Alfie Knight) to leap ahead, winning the gala with 25 points. Second place went to “Fannys Fantom Flan Flingers” while “Thai Team” had to settle for third with 22 points. Two points further back were “Dangerous & Co” in fourth while fifth place was shared between “The Three Ts” and “Not Again”. Rugby Thornfield Indoors’ final gala of 2017 was sandwiched between Christmas and New Year, the goal of the twelve teams to finish top of the tree while raising money for the clubs Junior Section.

In fourth place were "Beauty & the Beasts" while in joint fifth were "Noname", "New Year Nutters" and "Gooners". While "Fannys Fantom Flan Flingers" were still in first place "Peaky Blinders" closed to within one point of them with "Fire Flys" still on their tails. "New Year Nutters" and "Gooners" completed the top five. With the last bowl of 2017 bowled "Fannys Fantom Flan Flingers" aka M Long, T Pike, R Rogers and N Hewitson finished still in top spot. "Fire Flys" moved into second place with third place going to "Gooners". "New Year Nutters" and "Peaky Blinders" finished in joint fourth. After the first round of games three teams were level on seven points, 'The Showoffs', 'Tripods' and 'X Rail'. In joint fourth were the other teams that won their opening fixture 'Lost Sheep', 'Chocoholics' and 'Inside Out'. 'The Showoffs' had taken sole custody of first place heading into the midway break, one clear of 'Tripods' and two clear of 'X Rail' and 'Lost Sheep'. 'The Poachers' were in fifth place but trailed the leaders by five points. With three games gone 'Tripods' and 'X Rail' took advantage of a slip by the leaders to move into joint first. 'Lost Sheep' trailed them by a point and were in turn a point ahead of 'The Showoffs' with 'Sandy & Sue & Bob & Ron' completing the top five. With multiple teams in with a chance of finishing first the last set of fixtures provided a lot of interest but in the end there can only be one winner, 'X Rail' aka Messrs Martin, Kendall and Truman finished two points clear of 'Lost Sheep' in second place. Joint third went to 'Tripods' and 'Sandy & Sue & Bob & Ron' with 'The Showoffs' having to settle with fifth spot. Thornfield started it’s season of charity galas with the gala in aid of the Guide Dogs for the Blind. Fourteen teams took to the green in a bid to become top dog.
Three sides were tied on seven points after the first round of fixtures, Hopefuls, Hot Dogs for the Hungry and Kanppys Nutters with JANS, Cod & Chips, Three Old Men Plus One and Team Dymond all one point further back. Going into the midway break Kanppys Nutters and Hot Dogs for the Hungry were joint top ahead of Hopefuls in third and Team Dymond and JANS in joint fourth. With the third round of games complete Kanppys Nutters had moved two points clear of second place JANS, who in turn were a point ahead of Team Dymond. Hot Dogs for the Hungry were in fourth place with Hopefuls completing the top five. Kanppys Nutters (Mandy & Pat Dahlgren and Colin Knapp) made it four wins out of four to secure top spot, JANS also managed four wins but were a point behind in second. Joint third went to Team Dymond and Hot Dogs for the Hungry, fifth place were X-Rail who finished a point ahead of Hopefuls. The penultimate charity gala at Rugby Thornfield Indoor Bowls Club saw a reduced field of ten teams compete in aid of Arthritis Care.
Three teams were level on seven points after the first round of games Take Heart, Fannys Fantom Flan Flingers and X Rail with Glebe All Stars a point behind and The Odd Bunch completing the top five on four points. The midway break saw Take Heart and Fannys Fantom Flan Flingers still tied for top spot, X Rail dropping down to third. Nearly There was fourth, just three point off top spot and one point ahead of Red Five in fifth place. With the third set of games completed Fannys Fantom Flan Flingers had managed to breakaway to be sole leader, X Rail a point behind. Take Heart and Nearly There were joint third with Red Five clinging on to fifth. Fannys Fantom Flan Flingers (Nigel Malka, Trevor Pike, Colin Knapp and Nigel Hewitson) finished strong to win the gala with 26 points, X Rail were second on 24 points and 21 points secured third place for Take Heart. The top five was completed with The Odd Bunch and Red Five on 19 and 18 points respectively. The latest charity gala at Rugby Thornfield Indoor Bowls Club was in age of the NET Patient Foundation, this charity supports people who have one of the more rarer forms of cancer neuroendocrine, the NET stands for neuroendocrine tumours.
One team made the perfect start, gaining all eight available points Ken's Boys. X Rail and The Fab Four were a point behind in joint second, joint fourth went to Bilbo's Back and Brain Dead, in sixth place completing the first round winners were 3 Men and a Lady. Moving into the midway break The Fab Four had moved into top spot, three points clear of Bilbo's Back and Brain Dead in joint second. Ken's Boys were in fourth place while four teams were in fifth spot; X Rail, 3 Men and a Lady, Prime Spot and The Odd Bunch. Three rounds down and The Fab Four still held a three point lead over second place Bilbo's Back, who in turn were three points ahead of Prime Spot and The Odd Bunch in joint third. The top five was completed by 3 Men and a Lady. In the end there can be only one winner, dropping a total of just two ends all day that honour went to The Fab Four, Mandy and Pat Dahlgren, Colin Knapp and Howard Wilkins. Second place went to Bilbo's Back five points behind the winners, who were three points ahead of third place Prime Spot. In fourth place were Long Boys and Brain Dead completed the top five. Sixteen teams came together to participate in the latest charity gala at Rugby Thornfield Indoor Bowls Club, this one in aid of the British Heart Foundation. The club was buzzing due to a trio of their youngsters; Alfie Knight, Tom Wheeler and Jordan Ward having won the Potters Holidays Youth Junior Trophy at the Potters Resort earlier in the day.
A perfect game gave Gally's Heroes the top spot with 8 points after the first round. In joint second were The Odd Bunch and X Rail, joint fourth went to Latecomers, The Oddbods and Take Heart. Heading into the midway break The Odd Bunch had take the lead closely followed by The Oddbods in second, Latecomers in third, fourth were Roy's Girls and in joint fifth were Bilbo is Missing and Threesome + 1. With three games gone the lead changed again, The Oddbods one point clear of Roy's Girls and Threesome + 1 in joint second. The Odd Bunch and Bilbo is Missing were fourth and fifth respectively. The last bowls had been delivered and two teams were level on 22 points, Roy's Girls and Threesome + 1 so the winner would be decided by shots scored. Threesome + 1 had scored a total of 22 shots but the winners were Roy's Girls aka Julia Scott, Bev Mitchell, Angie Page and Roy Scott who scored three shots more. Third place went to Bilbo is Missing, with The Oddbods in fourth and X Rail completing the top five. |
