The penultimate charity gala of Rugby Thornfield Indoors Bowls Clubs season was in aid of the NET Patient Foundation, which supports people who have neuroendocrine cancer. Twelve teams took to the green carpet with music playing over the club speaker system to battle it out in four games of five ends.
With round one complete “Fab Four” and “Not So Hot Shots” led the way with seven points, “Dolly Mixtures”, “Oddments” and “Fannys Fantom Flan Flingers” a point behind while “Team Six” complete the list of teams to win their opening game. Heading into the midway break “Dolly Mixtures” and “Fab Four” shared top spot, two clear of third place “Team Six” who in turn were two points clear of “#HASHTAG” and “Not So Hot Shots” in joint fourth. “Fab Four” took sole control of the table after three games, both “Team Six” and “Dolly Mixtures” were two points behind in joint second. In fourth spot was “Oddments” with “Not So Hot Shots” completing the top five. With all games complete it was as you were for the leading three teams, all gaining six points in their last games, which meant “Fab Four” aka I Amos, S Blackshaw, S Butterworth and B Weston finished first. Joint second went to “Dolly Mixtures” and “Team Six”, two points behind first place and five points clear of “Mothers Day Miracle” in fourth. “#HASHTAG” and “Not So Hot Shots” shared fifth spot. Rugby Thornfield Indoor Bowl Club again hosted the 2018 Warwickshire Region EBYDS Event. The EBYDS (English Bowling Youth Development Scheme) splits entrants into two categories, juniors (14 or under) and seniors (18 or under). Each category is further split into groups of four for a round robin series of three wood singles. A player earns 10 points for a win and 5 points for a draw, shot difference is calculated in case of ties when it comes to final points. After the singles each player takes part in four different skill challenges, jack casting, line drawing, weighted shot and beating shot wood. The final points are totalled and players sorted in order.
For the Senior section there were two groups of four players. In Group “A” were Toby King, Alex Warrington, Tom Wheeler and Jack Cooper. With the exception of Toby King all players won two games and lost one so Jack Cooper, Tom Wheeler and Alex Warrington all had 20 points with Toby King scoring 0 points. Group “B” consisted of Alexia Agrafioti, Paul Warrington, Katherine Bowman and Jordan Ward. Jordan Ward won all of his games, so scored 30 points, Katherine Bowman won two getting 20 points, Paul Warrington won one to get 10 points while Alexia Agrafioti scored 0 points. Alexia Agrafioti finished off a poor day gaining an additional 17 points in the skills section, Jack Cooper gained 42 points, Paul Warrington 47 and Jordan Ward 48. Both Alex Warrington and Tom Wheeler took 50 points, Katherine Bowman 52 and Toby King, who failed to gain any points in the singles, scored an impressive 58 points. Jordan Ward finished top in the Senior Section with 78 points, 6 points ahead of Katherine Bowman, Tom Wheeler and Alex Warrington both finished with 70 points but Tom took third place with a +5 shot difference compared to +2. 62 points secured Jack Cooper fifth, Toby King sixth purely on his 58 skill points, seventh place was Paul Warrington with 57 points and Alexia Agrafioti’s 17 points saw her finish eighth. In the Junior Section there were due to be three groups of four and one group of three but one player had to withdraw due to illness leaving two groups with just three players, these groups played only two game but were awarded an extra 5 points for the missing game. In Group “C” Rhiana Russell won both of her games, Isabelle Pymm won one and lost one while Ailish Sheehan lost both. However because of being a player down all players were awarded and extra 5 points, giving Rhiana 25, Isabelle 15 and Ailish 5. Group “D” was the other group with three players so all players gained an additional 5 points, Alfie Knight won both games to gain 25 points, Grace Wade won one to gain 15 points while Edward Higham lost both games to finish with 5 points. Ellie Marie Hamblett won all three games in Group “E” to get 30 points, Alice Atkin won two gaining 20 points, Molly Fowler managed one victory to get 10 points with Tyler King getting 0 points. Group “F” was won by Jacob Mills (30 points) with Kieran Chambers second (20 points), Maxwell Magee 10 points and Joshua Toon 0 points. After the Junior skills challenges were completed the final standing, with skills score in brackets, were: Alfie Knight 85 (60), Jacob Mills 76 (46), Alice Atkin 73 (53), Kieran Chambers 71 (51), Ellie Marie Hamblett 70 (40), Rhiana Russell 67 (42), Isabelle Pymm 60 (45) shot difference +0, Grace Wade 60 (45) shot difference -12, Maxwell Magee 46 (36), Molly Fowler 41 (31), Ailish Sheehan 40 (35), Joshua Toon 38 (38), Edward Higham 23 (18) and Tyler King 16 (16). Jordan Ward and Alfie Knight will progress to the Midlands Regional at Melton & District Indoor Bowls Club in April. The clubs first charity gala of 2018 saw a full set of 16 teams take to green to raise funds for the British Heart Foundations Take Heart initiative which encourages exercise to help keep the heart healthy.
Two teams had an early one point lead after the first round, “Peaky Blinders” and “Bob's Babes” leading the way. Four teams were tied in joint third “Fannys Fantom Flan Flingers”, “Mix n Match”, “Thai Team” and “Dangerous & Co”. Moving into the half-time break the gala was wide open with five points separating ten teams, two points clear in joint first were “Dangerous & Co” and “Thai Team”. Third place were “Fannys Fantom Flan Flingers”, one point ahead of “Not Again” and “Peaky Blinders” in joint fourth. “Thai Team” held onto top spot after the third set of games, “Fannys Fantom Flan Flingers” and “Peaky Blinders” were joint second with joint fourth being held by “The Three Ts” and “Mix n Match”. A surprise defeat for “Thai Team” in their final game allowed “Peaky Blinders” (Jacob Mills, Sam, Glenn & Alfie Knight) to leap ahead, winning the gala with 25 points. Second place went to “Fannys Fantom Flan Flingers” while “Thai Team” had to settle for third with 22 points. Two points further back were “Dangerous & Co” in fourth while fifth place was shared between “The Three Ts” and “Not Again”. Rugby Thornfield Indoors’ final gala of 2017 was sandwiched between Christmas and New Year, the goal of the twelve teams to finish top of the tree while raising money for the clubs Junior Section.
A perfect start saw "Fannys Fantom Flan Flingers" take a two point lead over "New Year Nutters", "Fire Flys" and "Peaky Blinders", who in turn were an additional point ahead of fifth place "Chocoholics". Moving into the halfway break "Fannys Fantom Flan Flingers" still lead the way, "Peaky Blinders" took sole charge of second place a point ahead of third place "Fire Flys". In fourth place were "Beauty & the Beasts" while in joint fifth were "Noname", "New Year Nutters" and "Gooners". While "Fannys Fantom Flan Flingers" were still in first place "Peaky Blinders" closed to within one point of them with "Fire Flys" still on their tails. "New Year Nutters" and "Gooners" completed the top five. With the last bowl of 2017 bowled "Fannys Fantom Flan Flingers" aka M Long, T Pike, R Rogers and N Hewitson finished still in top spot. "Fire Flys" moved into second place with third place going to "Gooners". "New Year Nutters" and "Peaky Blinders" finished in joint fourth. Sixteen teams took to the green carpet to vie for the top spot in the latest charity gala at Thornfield, this one in aid of Parkinson’s.
After the first round of games three teams were level on seven points, 'The Showoffs', 'Tripods' and 'X Rail'. In joint fourth were the other teams that won their opening fixture 'Lost Sheep', 'Chocoholics' and 'Inside Out'. 'The Showoffs' had taken sole custody of first place heading into the midway break, one clear of 'Tripods' and two clear of 'X Rail' and 'Lost Sheep'. 'The Poachers' were in fifth place but trailed the leaders by five points. With three games gone 'Tripods' and 'X Rail' took advantage of a slip by the leaders to move into joint first. 'Lost Sheep' trailed them by a point and were in turn a point ahead of 'The Showoffs' with 'Sandy & Sue & Bob & Ron' completing the top five. With multiple teams in with a chance of finishing first the last set of fixtures provided a lot of interest but in the end there can only be one winner, 'X Rail' aka Messrs Martin, Kendall and Truman finished two points clear of 'Lost Sheep' in second place. Joint third went to 'Tripods' and 'Sandy & Sue & Bob & Ron' with 'The Showoffs' having to settle with fifth spot. After hosting the Warwickshire Women's Indoor BA in the first of their matches celebrating their 25th anniversary, playing against the clubs of Warwickshire, the WWIBA has passed on their thanks to the club for all the hard work they put in and for the lovely post match meal provided by club caterers The Family Kitchen.
The WWIBA host Hertfordshire, also at Thornfield, on Wednesday 25th October starting at 2:30pm Thornfield started it’s season of charity galas with the gala in aid of the Guide Dogs for the Blind. Fourteen teams took to the green in a bid to become top dog.
Three sides were tied on seven points after the first round of fixtures, Hopefuls, Hot Dogs for the Hungry and Kanppys Nutters with JANS, Cod & Chips, Three Old Men Plus One and Team Dymond all one point further back. Going into the midway break Kanppys Nutters and Hot Dogs for the Hungry were joint top ahead of Hopefuls in third and Team Dymond and JANS in joint fourth. With the third round of games complete Kanppys Nutters had moved two points clear of second place JANS, who in turn were a point ahead of Team Dymond. Hot Dogs for the Hungry were in fourth place with Hopefuls completing the top five. Kanppys Nutters (Mandy & Pat Dahlgren and Colin Knapp) made it four wins out of four to secure top spot, JANS also managed four wins but were a point behind in second. Joint third went to Team Dymond and Hot Dogs for the Hungry, fifth place were X-Rail who finished a point ahead of Hopefuls. Rugby Thornfield Indoors Bowls Club held their final charity gala of the winter season, this one in aid of the Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance.
Two teams were tied for top spot after the first round of games Odd Bunch and X Rail. The 300 Club and Take Heart were a point behind in joint third while a further point back in fifth were Here Again. Heading into the halfway break X Rail were three points clear of Yellow Flyers in second place, who in turn were a point ahead of The Reluctant Four and Mary's Boys in joint third. Fifth place was a five way tie behind Odd Bunch, The 300 Club, Take Heart, No Hopers and The Chocoholics. Three games gone and just three points separated the top five, Yellow Flyers was first a point clear of The 300 Club, joint third were X Rail and The Reluctant Four, while in joint fifth were No Hopers and The Chocoholics. Yellow Flyers (Helen Scott, Mandy Dahlgren, Pat Dahlgren and Colin Knapp) held their nerve finishing two points ahead of No Hopers and The Reluctant Four in joint second. Fourth spot went to Mary's Boys and The 300 Club were fifth. Special mention goes to Helimed 53 (Alan Jackson, Paul Eagle, Trevor Evans and Michael Jackson), named after the call sign for the Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance, who proved that helicopters can’t bowl but are good at saving lives. Three teams were level on seven points after the first round of games Take Heart, Fannys Fantom Flan Flingers and X Rail with Glebe All Stars a point behind and The Odd Bunch completing the top five on four points. The midway break saw Take Heart and Fannys Fantom Flan Flingers still tied for top spot, X Rail dropping down to third. Nearly There was fourth, just three point off top spot and one point ahead of Red Five in fifth place. With the third set of games completed Fannys Fantom Flan Flingers had managed to breakaway to be sole leader, X Rail a point behind. Take Heart and Nearly There were joint third with Red Five clinging on to fifth. Fannys Fantom Flan Flingers (Nigel Malka, Trevor Pike, Colin Knapp and Nigel Hewitson) finished strong to win the gala with 26 points, X Rail were second on 24 points and 21 points secured third place for Take Heart. The top five was completed with The Odd Bunch and Red Five on 19 and 18 points respectively. The latest charity gala at Rugby Thornfield Indoor Bowls Club was in age of the NET Patient Foundation, this charity supports people who have one of the more rarer forms of cancer neuroendocrine, the NET stands for neuroendocrine tumours.
One team made the perfect start, gaining all eight available points Ken's Boys. X Rail and The Fab Four were a point behind in joint second, joint fourth went to Bilbo's Back and Brain Dead, in sixth place completing the first round winners were 3 Men and a Lady. Moving into the midway break The Fab Four had moved into top spot, three points clear of Bilbo's Back and Brain Dead in joint second. Ken's Boys were in fourth place while four teams were in fifth spot; X Rail, 3 Men and a Lady, Prime Spot and The Odd Bunch. Three rounds down and The Fab Four still held a three point lead over second place Bilbo's Back, who in turn were three points ahead of Prime Spot and The Odd Bunch in joint third. The top five was completed by 3 Men and a Lady. In the end there can be only one winner, dropping a total of just two ends all day that honour went to The Fab Four, Mandy and Pat Dahlgren, Colin Knapp and Howard Wilkins. Second place went to Bilbo's Back five points behind the winners, who were three points ahead of third place Prime Spot. In fourth place were Long Boys and Brain Dead completed the top five. |
