The club’s first charity gala of 2022 was in aid of the Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance. The format is three games of six ends, five points for a win, three for a draw and one point for every end won. Fourteen teams took to the green to see who was a high flyer and who was permanently grounded.
After the first round of games five teams were all level with nine points ‘Colins Corinthians’, ‘Three Plus One’, ‘Avengers’, ‘River Raiders’ and ‘Nappis 4’. The two other teams to win their opening game were ‘Killer’ and ‘Squirrel Nutkins’. Heading into the break ‘Avengers’ had moved into top spot with nineteen points. Two shots back in joint second place were ‘Three Plus One’ and ‘River Raiders’. Fourth place was a five-way tie between ‘Jaguar Ladies’, ‘Fannys Fantom Flan Flingers’, ‘The Believers’, ‘Team Sue’ and ‘Nappis 4’. With all bowls bowled ‘River Raiders’ aka Brian Webber, Tina Grey, Mark Noble and Paul Sharp took the crown with twenty-eight points. Second place, six points back, were ‘The Believers’. Joint third, a further point behind, were ‘Fannys Fantom Flan Flingers’ and ‘Team Sue’, while twenty points secured ‘Avengers’ and ‘Colins Corinthians’ joint fifth place. Thornfields next charity gala is on Saturday 5th February at 2:30pm and is aid of Cancer Research, anyone interested in playing should contact the bar staff. The clubs galas returned after an enforced break due to the coronavirus pandemic. The first gala of the season was raising money for club funds and featured a new format, three games of six ends.
After the first round of games it was a three-way tie for top spot, ‘The Killers’, ‘4 Aces’ and ‘Mrs Claus & Her Merry Helpers’ all on eight points. The other teams to win their opening game, picking up seven points were ‘Matrix Mob’, ‘The Choral Singers’, ‘Mischief Makers’, ‘Colins Corinthians’ and ‘Four Fairies’. Picking up another eight points saw ‘4 Aces’ take sole control of the lead with ‘Mischief Makers’, ‘Four Fairies’ and ‘Colins Corinthians’ all two points behind. Fifth place with thirteen points were ‘Matrix Mob’, while ‘Mrs Claus & Her Merry Helpers’ completed the list of teams in double figures. At the end of the gala there were two teams level on twenty-one points, ‘Four Fairies’ and ‘Colins Corinthians’, with a total shot count five higher first place went to ‘Colins Corinthians’ aka Sham Smart, Mike Long, Colin Loveitt and Nigel Malka. Third place, three points behind, were ‘The Choral Singers’, in joint fourth another two points back were ‘The Choral Singers’ and ‘The Committee’. The galas return in 2022, all supporting charities. The Air Ambulance Gala is on 15th January, 5th February sees the Cancer Research Gala, Comic Relief on 5th March with the final gala on 2nd April though the charity is to be decided. All are on Saturdays at 2.30pm and open to members and non-members. The club also holds monthly Aussie Pairs Tournaments, the next due on Tuesday 18th January at 7pm. Also on Tuesdays at 6.45pm is the 54321 fun mini competition, teams will be randomly drawn and play two games. Starting in January is The Sunday Open, teams are randomly drawn from the available players and two games are played. There will be both weekly and an end of season prize. The 54321 and Sunday Open are open to both members and non-members, contact the club for further information. The penultimate charity gala was in aid of Neuroendocrine Cancer UK, sixteen teams took the green for an afternoon of enjoyable bowls.
Only one team made a perfect start getting all eight points, “Four Candles”, a point behind in joint second were “Rafferty Motor Car”, “Odds and Ends”, “Jaguar Ladies” and “Odd Bods”. At the half-time break “Rafferty Motor Car” moved to first place three points ahead of “Take Heart”. A further point back in third were “Four Candles” who in turn were a point in front of “Odd Bods” and “The Mugs” in joint fourth. Heading into the final round of games “Take Heart” had joined “Rafferty Motor Car” in first place. Third place was held by “Four Candles”, fourth were “Net Zebras” and in joint fifth were “The Mugs”, “Cross Rail” and “Fanny's Fantom Flan Flingers”. With all the bowling completed “Rafferty Motor Car” aka Brian Webber, Mark Noble, Paul Sharpe and Henry Neal finished first with 23 points. On 21 points in second place were “Net Zebras”, a point ahead of “Cross Rail”. Joint fourth with 18 points were “Take Heart” and “Odds and Ends”. Thornfield’s final gala is on Sunday 22nd March and the winners decide which charity will benefit. A point behind in joint third were “Meghan's Mishits”, “Keep Smiling No Matter What”, “Smarties Crew” and “Fanny's Fanton Flan Flingers”. Heading into the half-time break “Fanny's Fanton Flan Flingers” joined “Mandy's Movers” in joint first, joint third were “Meghan's Mishits” and “Smarties Crew” a point behind. Three teams were four points behind first place in joint fifth “Odds 'n' Sods”, “Last Gasp” and “Persona Non Grata”. With three rounds gone “Fanny's Fanton Flan Flingers” were one point clear of second place “Meghan's Mishits”. “Last Gasp” held third spot with “Mandy's Movers” and “Smarties Crew” in joint fifth. “Meghan's Mishits” (Jacob Mills, Dougie Muir, Brian Thompson and Adrian Johnston) took the full eight points to leapfrog “Fanny's Fanton Flan Flingers”, winning the gala by one point. “Mandy's Movers” remained in third place, four points behind second and two clear of “Last Gasp” and “Keep Smiling No Matter What” in joint fourth. With the Christmas period getting closer Rugby Thornfield Indoor Bowls Clubs latest charity gala was in aid of the Rugby Foodbank, a charity that helps those struggling to make ends meet. Sixteen teams took to the green for a fun afternoon of bowls.
After the first set of games ‘Keep Smiling No Matter What!’ and ‘Fab Four’ led the way on 7 points, five teams were a point behind in joint third ‘The Ball Balls’, ‘Good, Bad and Ugly’, ‘Do Gooders’, ‘Take Heart’ and ‘Christmas in the Drunk Tank’. Heading into the half-time break ‘Fab Four’ had taken sole control of top spot, joint second a point behind were ‘Keep Smiling No Matter What!’ and ‘Christmas in the Drunk Tank’. ‘Take Heart’ were in fourth place with ‘The Ball Balls’ completing the top five. Three games gone and ‘Fab Four’ extended their lead at the top, ‘Keep Smiling No Matter What!’ now two points behind. Third place was held by ‘Christmas in the Drunk Tank’, ‘Take Heart’ were still fourth and ‘Do Gooders’ had moved into fifth. With all the bowls finished ‘Fab Four’ (Jake Blundell, Ivor Amos, Sarah Blackshaw and Barry Weston) finished top, though ‘Keep Smiling No Matter What!’ were only a point behind and a further point back in third were ‘Christmas in the Drunk Tank’. Fourth place went to ‘Take Heart’ and in joint fifth were ‘The Ball Balls’ and ‘Fannys Fantom Flan Flingers’. Three clubs had 100% records after the first round of games, “Fannies Fantom Flan Flingers”, “Santa's in Rehab” and “Jaguar Ladies”. In joint fourth one point behind were “Goddess & Saint” and “Odds & Sods B”. “Keep Smiling” and “Blues Brothers” completed the group of teams that won their opening game. Heading into the half-time break “Fannies Fantom Flan Flingers”, “Santa's in Rehab” and “Jaguar Ladies” were still locked together in joint first, two points behind in joint fourth were “Blues Brothers” and “Here Again”. Three rounds down and “Fannies Fantom Flan Flingers” took sole ownership of first place, five points ahead of “Once in a Blue Moon”. A point further back in joint third were “Jaguar Ladies” and “Santa's in Rehab”, another point back were “Here Again”, “Goddess & Saint” and “Fab Four” in joint fifth. “Fannies Fantom Flan Flingers” aka Gina Sharpe, Ian Gibbs, Stuart Miles and Nigel Hewitson finished first with 28 points, “Once in a Blue Moon” were joined by “Santa's in Rehab” in joint second (22 points). With 20 points fourth place went to “Fab Four” and joint fifth with 16 points were “Jaguar Ladies”, “Here Again” and “Odds & Sods A”. Rugby Thornfield Indoor BC kicked off their charity gala season for 2019/20 with twelve teams taking part in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support. After the first round of games had finished three teams were joint top with seven points, "Hardly Good", "Keep Smiling No Matter What" and "Shreks Brothers". "Cross Rail" were a point behind in fourth place with "Fannies Fantom Flan Flingers" a further point back in fifth. Heading into the midway break "Keep Smiling No Matter What" had taken sole charge of top spot, a point clear of "Hardly Good" and "Fannies Fantom Flan Flingers" in joint second. Two point off the lead were "Shreks Brothers" in fourth while joint fifth were "The Young Ones" and "The Wreckers". Half-time entertainment was provided by Rugbylele, a Rugby based ukulele band.
Back to the bowls and "Shreks Brothers" moved into top spot, three points ahead of "Keep Smiling No Matter What". Joint third, a point behind second place, were "The Young Ones" and "4m8s". They in turn were a point clear of "The Wreckers" and "Fannies Fantom Flan Flingers" in joint fifth. The final set of games saw both "Shreks Brothers" and "Keep Smiling No Matter What" pick up seven point, meaning "Shreks Brothers" (aka Brian Webber, Mark Noble, Henry Neal and Paul Sharp) won the gala with 25 points, "Keep Smiling No Matter What" were second with 22 points. On 18 points in joint third were "Hardly Good" and "Here We Are Again" with fifth place going to "4m8s" on 17 points. The club held it’s penultimate charity gala of the winter season, this time raising funds for the NET Patient Foundation. This charity supports people who have neuroendocrine cancer.
Two teams held a one point lead after the first round of games “X-Rail” and “Jaguar Ladies”. “Odd Bunch”, “Pat's Pummelers”, “Fly By Night” and “The Blue Brothers” were all joint third. The field scattered heading into the halfway break, each team one point ahead of their nearest rival. First place went to “Pat's Pummelers”, “The Blue Brothers” were second and “Take Heart” third. “We Know Nothing” held fourth spot while “X-Rail” and “Here Again” were in joint fifth. With three rounds played “Take Heart” jumped into top spot with a perfect game. “Pat's Pummelers” and “The Blue Brothers” now had to settle for joint second, “X-Rail” were fourth and “Odd Bunch” fifth. After the last bowls had been played “The Blue Brothers” finally hit top spot to win the gala, two points clear of “X-Rail” who in turn were two points ahead of “Take Heart” and “Pat's Pummelers” in joint third, “Fannys Fantom Flan Flingers” completed the top five. Thornfield held their first charity gala of 2019 with a full set of sixteen teams taking to green to raise funds for the Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance. With cake sales and name the teddy the afternoon raised just under £380 for the charity.

"Uno Our Name", "One For A Reason" and "X Rail" were a point behind with "The Hoverers" another point back completing the group of teams to win their opening games. Heading into the midway break "X Rail" joined "Tina's Lot" in joint first. Third place two points behind were "Misfits", "Ever Hopefuls" were in fourth with joint fifth going to "Uno Our Name", "One For A Reason" and "Odds & Sods". "X Rail" took sole control of top spot after the third round of games, just one point clear of "Tina's Lot" in second. Two points further back were "Misfits" who were a point ahead of fourth place "One For A Reason". Five spot was shared between "Odds & Sods" and "Odd Bunch". Pat Quirke, Ron Davies, Ian Kendall and Bruce Truman aka "X Rail" took all eight points in their final game to win the gala with 28 points. "Tina's Lot" had to settle with second place on 25 points, two points ahead of "One For A Reason" in third. 20 points secured fourth spot for "Odd Bunch", while one point further back in joint fifth were "Misfits" and "Odds & Sods". The club finished 2018 with the Christmas Gala in aid of the junior section. Sixteen teams took part in the festive fun, all trying to become the Christmas No 1.
Odds n Sods and EBowler led the way after the first set of games one point clear of the other teams that also won their opening game: One Missing, Beauty & The Beasts, Simply The Worst, Uno Our Name, HARM and Wild Bunch. The second round of matches helped to spread the teams, EBowler held on to first place, Simply The Worst moved into second while One Missing dropped into third, each a point behind the team above them. Three points further back in joint fourth were Fanny's Fantom Flan Flingers, Odds n Sods and We Put The Pressure On. EBowler opened their lead to three points ahead of Odds n Sods. Simply The Worst and Fanny's Fantom Flan Flingers were joint third, joint fifth going to We Put The Pressure On and One Missing. With the bowls finished for the year EBowler held onto first place with 26 points. Second place went to Odds n Sods, two point behind the champions. 21 points secured joint third for Simply The Worst and Fanny's Fantom Flan Flingers, Beauty & The Beasts finished fourth with 19 points with Sleigh Riders and We Put The Pressure On three points back in joint fifth. |
