A nearly full field of 14 teams arrived at Rugby Thornfield Indoor Bowls Club to take part in the Gala raising funds for the British Heart Foundation.

With the first round complete “Wasps” and “Floral Dancers” held a one point lead over “Mission Impossible”, “Bits n Pieces” and “X Rail” who were joint third. “Mission Impossible” moved to top spot heading into the half-time break, a point ahead of “Specksavers” and “Floral Dancers” in joint second. Three points further back in joint fourth were “Bits n Pieces”, “X Rail” and “Wasps”.

The lead changed hands again heading into the final round of games, “Specksavers” in pole position but three teams were hot on their heels in joint second “Wasps”, “Bits n Pieces” and “X Rail”. “Mission Impossible” completed the top five. A perfect eight point game saw “X Rail” (Pat Quirke, Trevor Evans, Alec Gallimore and Bruce Truman) storm to top of the pile winning the gala with 24 points. “Bits n Pieces” finished second on 23 points, third place went to “Specksavers” with 20 points, one point ahead of “Mission Impossible” and “Floral Dancers” in joint fourth.
